Following a jaunt to Texas,
Atlanta’s the Sexual Sides Effects play another hometown show, opening for Girl in a Coma at the EARL July 10.

TUESDAY
Girl in a Coma, the Sexual Side Effects

Fiery female trio Girl in a Coma melds the power of earlier punk styles with new-millennium attitude and style. And they’re signed to Joan Jett’s label, Blackheart Records. Imagine the Smiths (the band takes its name from that band’s ’80s classic “Girlfriend in a Coma”) and Siouxsie and the Banshees fed through the Pixies punk shredder. And if you haven’t jumped on board the Sexual Side Effects bandwagon yet, now’s the time. This rocking Atlanta quartet won the Comcast/Xfinity video award at the Georgia Music Awards in June. The hard-touring band’s been busy gaining fans on the East Coast and on a recent jaunt to Texas, where things got so fiery that a club had to be evacuated (check out the story on the Atlanta Music Scene blog). You can grab the debut EP, “High Maintenance,” or see the award-winning video for “All She’ll Ever Hurt” at the band’s website.

7 p.m. July 10. $12; $10 in advance. The EARL, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. S.E., Atlanta. 404-522-3950.
